Venice MainStreet is a 501c3 nonprofit organization, founded in 1987. Venice MainStreet is united with over 2,000 Main Street organizations across the United States. It is an accredited member of the National Main Street Organization, Main Street America, and the Florida Main Street Organization. Main Street organizations started in the 1980s when commercial shopping malls became a threat to our downtown shopping districts. All Main Street organizations work in a historic downtown through a four point approach. These four points are historic preservation, economic development, beautification and promotion.
Venice MainStreet manages a full time office with two full time staff person, the CEO and Events Coordinator and a part time assistant. VMS is run by an all-volunteer Board of Directors. The workload and projects are achieved through six committees; Economic Vitality, Promotions, Marketing, Membership, Design and Organization. The committee members are the volunteers that “roll up their sleeves” and get the work done. They are the backbone of VMS projects.
Another important volunteer effort of Venice MainStreet is the amazing group of 75+ volunteers called the Downtowners. The Downtowners work six days a week, during season, at the Kiosk in Centennial Park and walking the Avenues greeting visitors, giving out information, and answering questions.
Without our amazing volunteers, Venice MainStreet could not live up to its mission of preserving and enhancing a quality environment in Historic Downtown Venice.
