Congrats to Mary Erickson, poster contest winner!

Mary’s lovely “Venice Path” painting was selected by the panel of judges on the Venice MainStreet Design Committee, Venice MainStreet Board of Directors, and Howard Alan of Howard Alan Events (the organizer of the art festival). This is Mary’s fifth winning painting over the festival’s 25+ year history of holding poster contests. Her artwork was also featured during the 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th annual festivals.

Posters of Mary’s painting will be available for sale at the upcoming art festival on November 6th-7th at the Venice MainStreet booth. Mary will be there to sign posters. Artist Heather McCullough, winner of the 2020 poster contest, will also be at the booth promoting her artwork, which is featured on beach totes newly offered this year.

Welcome, Venice Musicale!

Thank you, Venice Musicale, for joining Venice MainStreet as a Nonprofit Partner and Happy 70th Anniversary! Venice Musicale has been enriching the community through free public music performances and scholarships for next-generation musicians since 1951. It is a non-profit, non-sectarian membership organization dedicated to presenting quality music to the public free of charge and encouraging young area musicians by awarding scholarships for summer music camps, first-year college performance studies, or private lessons.

Welcome to downtown, Seed & Bean Market

Welcome to downtown, Seed & Bean Market

Seed and Bean Market is Florida’s first Cannabis Café and CBD marketplace. It was founded in 2018 in Fort Myers, Florida after four founding members, with cannabis industry roots, cultivated their passion for CBD, great coffee, unique beer and delicious food into a comfortable lifestyle destination. The Market’s second location opened in downtown Venice in October 2021 offering a breakfast, lunch and dinner menu, along with a wide selection of beverages including coffee, protein shakes, wine, CBD drinks and mocktails.

As the first CBD marketplace of its kind, they are dedicated to offering only the highest quality foods and beverages, as well as thoroughly tested CBD products, in a relaxing atmosphere. As industry innovators with a unique niche, their philosophy is simple: “Our community is our home, and our customers are our family.”

Seed and Bean Market is located at 116 West Venice Avenue, Venice, FL 34285. Contact the Market at 941-220-3234; learn more and shop online at SeedandBeanMarket.com.

Venice Area Pregnancy Care Center joins Venice MainStreet

Venice Area Pregnancy Care Center joins Venice MainStreet

We are delighted to have another nonprofit join Venice MainStreet as a partner. The Venice Area Pregnancy Care Center (VAPCC) is a non-profit charity run entirely by volunteers that assists families with children in Venice and South Sarasota County. Its mission is to help parents with children that are in need, to provide safer, healthier, and happier lives for their children. This is done by providing the following items: clothing from newborn to size 5T, baby furniture, cribs, swings, high chairs, strollers, baby food, cereal, and formula. VAPCC provides two packages of diapers, per child, once every four weeks to parents. Through grants from local organizations, VAPCC is also able to provide new car seats. Expectant mothers must be within one month or less away from their due date to receive services.

VAPCC welcomes donated items such as diapers, onesies, blankets, cribs and receiving, sleepers, hats, bibs and booties. They also accept baby formula, baby food and baby cereal. Other valued donations would be bassinets and pack & plays. NOTE: VAPCC does not accept used cribs, car seats, or stuffed animals.

For more information, call 941-485-1776, email vapcc4u@gmail.com or visit VAPCC.org. Located at 301 Bayshore Drive, Venice, FL 34285.

The Island Bookshop Opens in Downtown Venice

The Island Bookshop Opens in Downtown Venice

We are excited to welcome a new business to downtown Venice! The Island Bookshop opened this September and is nestled on charming Miami Avenue West, next to Mother’s Cupboard Spice Shoppe, in the Merchants of Venice building.

The Island Bookshop’s owners, Aimee Odette and Michael Rank, who are both university professors, recognized the need for a bookstore on the island of Venice. To them, “A bookstore is an extension of home, the anchor of a community.” Their love for books and building community led to their bookshop idea and long-standing dream.

The bookshop carries new books as well as art, photography, and pottery from local residents. “As a small community-oriented book shop, we provide literary and art experiences for our customers of all ages, children to adults. As residents of Venice Island, we are especially proud to showcase the work of various local writers and artists in the community, our home,” says Odette.

In the near future, The Island Bookshop will offer writing and reading classes, writer’s groups, children’s groups, local author’s events, and community outreach. For more information visit TheIslandBookshop.com, call 941-416-5511. Located at 206 West Miami Avenue, Venice, FL 34285.
