Welcome New Business Partner, Voila! Gallery

Located in the heart of downtown Venice, in the historic 1920s San Marco building, Voila! Petite Fine Art Gallery is a charming and intimate gallery space featuring the modern works of Resident Artist, Melissa Erlenbach, as well as guest artists and craftspeople. Look forward to upcoming pop-up events at Voila! Gallery in February, March and April 2022.

“Every artist has a personal philosophy that guides her work,” states Melissa. She loves and creates art that stimulates thought and opens up a conversation. A title starts the conversation, allowing viewers to layer their own memories and meanings onto the paintings. Her inspiration is drawn from the Modern Art Philosophy which emphasizes simplicity, intensity, and direct expression, and credits the artist/art philosopher, Robert Motherwell as having had the greatest influence on her work. ”I awaken before dawn each morning, my head swirling with possibilities. I watch the day emerge as the sun rises outside my studio, then follow the muse. The process of visually diving into each image through its multiple layers of rich texture and depth is the sort of magic that compels me to come back to creating, day after day. My work has evolved over the years, but the drive to create, interpret, and share has never failed me.”

Heart Bombs on Historic Venice Buildings

Heart Bombs on Historic Venice Buildings

Show Your Favorite Historic Buildings Some Love This Valentine’s Day
Three Organizations Sponsoring Heart Bombing Throughout City

Contact: Harry Klinkhamer, Historical Resources Manager, City of Venice, hklinkhamer@venicefl.gov 941-486-2490.

This February the City of Venice Division of Historical Resources, Venice MainStreet, and Venice Heritage Inc. are encouraging the community and, in particular, historic property owners to heart bomb historic buildings throughout the City. Heart bombing is a program started by the National Trust for Historic Preservation to provide awareness and support to those buildings a community deems important to its historic fabric. It consists of adorning buildings with handmade paper hearts that have messages of love and support for those places. It doesn’t matter if they are pristine, a little run down, or threatened with loss. All historic buildings would appreciate the attention. People should also feel inspired to stand with hearts in front of buildings for a photo opportunity.

Venice Main Street and Historical Resources are supporting three downtown historic buildings. The public is invited to heart making stations to create their messages in support/love of historic buildings. On Miami Avenue create your heart bomb for the Burgundy Square building at the stores Gulf Soles and Nest. On Venice Avenue, create your heart at Venice Wine and Coffee Company for the Johnson-Schoolcraft Building, and on Tampa Avenue create your heart bomb at Tri-Healthy and Compass Property Management to show your support of historic preservation of the KMI/San Marco Building. Starting the beginning of February the public is invited to create hearts at these buildings. The hearts will be collected and put up by volunteers on February 11 when you can take photos with them throughout the weekend and on Valentine’s Day. Venice Heritage and Historical Resources encourage owners of historic homes to spread the love on their properties. Remember, any place over fifty years old is worth showing some love to. Place hearts where people can see them. Gather your friends and neighbors for some group photos around your homes.

Post your photos on social media so everyone can see which places we love the most. Be sure to tag them with #IHeartSavingPlaces and #HeartBombVeniceFL. Share them on the Facebook pages of Venice Main Street, Venice Heritage, and Venice Museum & Archives. We look forward to seeing the love of our history displayed throughout Venice this Valentine’s Day!

Florida Main Street Day is January 18, 2022

Florida Main Street Day is January 18, 2022

Venice MainStreet has partnered with the Florida Department of State on a statewide initiative to celebrate the successes of Florida’s Main Street communities and educate the public about the impacts of local, statewide, and national Main Street programs. Florida Secretary of State Laurel M. Lee announced January 18, 2022 as this year’s Florida Main Street Day. Kara Morgan, CEO of Venice MainStreet, will be attending the event in Tallahassee, Florida.

Since 2020, the Florida Main Street program has organized Florida Main Street Day to raise awareness of Main Street programs. From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Florida Main Street, Orlando Main Streets, and local Main Street communities will be located on the 2nd Floor Rotunda of the Florida State Capitol.

“I am thrilled to recognize this year’s Florida Main Street Day,” said Secretary Lee. “Our Main Streets have proven to be vital in protecting and revitalizing our state’s historic downtowns and commercial corridors, and I look forward to their continued success.”

Developed in the late 1970s by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the Main Street program works to revitalize historic downtowns and neighborhood commercial corridors by encouraging economic development within the context of historic preservation. Since 1985, Florida Main Street has worked with more than 100 communities to rejuvenate Florida’s downtowns – the community’s heart and soul. Currently, Florida Main Street oversees 54 participating communities, including Venice MainStreet.

Welcome, Venice Pride, Inc.

Welcome, Venice Pride, Inc.

Venice MainStreet is delighted to welcome Venice Pride, Inc. as a Nonprofit Partner! Venice Pride, Inc. is an inclusive place that celebrates the diversity, visibility and strength of the LGBTQ+ community and its allies.

In 2018, Venice Pride joined other activists and LGBTQ+ supporters and allies to celebrate the visibility and diversity of the LGBTQ+ community. In what started out as a vision to promote awareness of the LGBTQ+ community, SunCoast Metropolitan Community Church’s (MCC) members and friends took the initiative to provide the support needed to host the first Venice Pride Festival in November 2018. Due to the overwhelming support from the broader community, Venice Pride recognized the need for an ongoing presence and voice of the LGBTQ+ community.

In 2020, Venice Pride incorporated as a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization and in 2021 developed its Strategic Plan for 2022 to 2024 to guide the organization’s work. With community support, it plans to expand programming, build partnerships, educate and advocate — all with the goal of making a difference in the lives of its LGBTQ+ friends and allies in the Suncoast region of Florida.
